He is remorseful that he got caught, and that's it.

The only reason he feels sad about it is because now he's sitting in prison. He seems to have absolutely no remorse for his actions. There are no good reasons to do what he did, but his motive was really stupid. Which is understandable if you see how much of a shitbag he was and consider how annoying it must have been to deal with him every day. He pretty much did what he did because his ex-girlfriend didn't want anything to do with him anymore. More than likely, he's dumb because he was more focused on harassing others and making trouble in school rather than studying. A third grader could write more cohesively and clearly than Cruz can now. Check out some of the letters he's written during his time in prison. He regularly killed animals for fun and took photos of their carcasses as if to brag about it. The police were at his house constantly dealing with him and trying to talk sense into him because he was incredibly difficult to live with. He was very much abusive to his adoptive mother, always threatening her and ordering her around. This still remains true to this day, he's been a total asshole in jail too, attacking corrections officers for no reason and causing trouble with everyone in there. He was constantly making threats and causing trouble in school, challenging people to fights over basically nothing, bothering people who did nothing to him. He was a total edgelord and a massive pain in the ass to almost everyone who encountered him. However, there are a few things that put Nikolas Cruz ahead of the others: Mind you, all of these individuals are awful people, but that much should be obvious.

He's definitely in my top ten of the worst mass killers, maybe even top five now that I think about it.
